Teresa and Erica met at the range in December 2011 on a chance encounter during the Pistol Packing Ladies's infant days. After slinging some lead down range and a little bit of chatting, it became clear to both of them that their shared passion for getting women active in the shooting sports and fostering those skills from the ground up was the start of a beautiful relationship and, thus, the current day Pistol Packing Ladies was born! As the Club has grown, so has the PPL team. Today, the Pistol Packing Ladies Instructor Group is committed to offering a safe, comfortable environment for women to gain experience and grow as shooters and as empowered women. We love what we do.
Teresa Ovalle, Founder of PPL, is a retired U.S. Marine who has always enjoyed handling firearms, but did not realize her passion for pistol shooting until she took an NRA Basic Pistol Class to improve her skills and increase her comfort level with handguns. Unbeknownst to her, this experience kicked off the spark of pistol passion that would create Pistol Packing Ladies in 2011.
Erica Quinley, Co-Founder of PPL and Personal Shooting Coach, is a former active duty U.S. Marine who has been immersed in the shooting sports since she was a young child, participating in shotgun competitions at the tender age of 13! She became an avid pistol shooter 18 years ago and hasn't looked back since.
Tammie Saffa, PPL Deputy and Instructor, retired from the federal government in Sept 2015. She worked for the Department of the Navy for 40 years. Tammie’s love for shooting began after an unexpected trip to the range with her husband and nephew. Her nephew, a police officer, taught her how to handle a gun during that visit and she was hooked.
Stacy Hicks, PPL Instructor and Co-Event Host, is a small business owner here in Stafford, Va. She joined Pistol Packing Ladies about 3 years ago after hearing about the group from a couple of clients. When Stacy came to the range for the first time, she had never done more than hold a gun. She was very excited and nervous at the same. Thankfully, Erica was there to give Stacy a quick overview of safe gun handling and shooting. Thanks to Stacy’s wonderful first experience, she was hooked.
Dedra Brown, PPL Instructor, is a USMC Spouse, mother, and a law student. She joined Pistol Packing Ladies several years ago when her husband purchased a firearm for her after she and her young daughter were being followed at a park. Prior to the incident, Dedra had no interest in firearms and was quite fearful of them, but always supported the Constitutional right for others to bear arms.
Jenny Bowers, PPL Instructor and Co-Event Host, joined Pistol Packing Ladies after learning about the group from The Range website. She was hooked the first night, which happened to be Zombie Night. It was the first time Jenny had shot at an indoor range.
